San Rafael traffic stop turns up suspect in Canal shooting

Published Wednesday April 27

3 weeks after a man was shot in San Rafael, a minor traffic stop and some astute police work led to the arrest of a suspect.

Daniel Andres Scallion Martinez, twenty will be arraigned Thu morning on charges of assault with a firearm, threatening a crime victim, brandishing a gun, carrying a loaded gun in public and other gang- and gun-related allegations.

Scallion Martinez, a San Rafael resident, is being held at the Marin County Jail in lieu of $600,000 bail.

Investigators later concluded the shooting was gang-related, commented San Rafael police Lieutenant Raffaello Pata.

Scallion Martinez is the only suspect charged in the shooting, but the investigation is continuing.
