HERCULES — In the only election anywhere in Contra Costa County on Tue Hercules voters appeared ready to extend 2 existing taxes.

Measure B would extend indefinitely a half-cent local sales tax that otherwise would end next year. Measure C would extend until 2025 a two percent utility users tax that otherwise would sunset in 2018.

«Sales in Hercules are subject to a total tax of 9 percent, comprising state, county, city and regional sales taxes.

About $2 mill. a year in general fund revenue is at stake between the 2 measures. As general taxes, each needed a simple majority of votes to pass. Both measures were leading by a 3-to-1 margin in early returns Tue evening.

The council also could repeal all or part of the six percent or two percent utility users’ tax by a two-thirds vote.
